Fitting bird guards to old chimneys

September 21, 2014 / Posted by in Chimney Services

Fitting a cowl or bird guard is usually a straight forward job but sometimes things can get a little complicated. Some chimneys don’t have a pot to fix to and often the top of the stack is in very poor condition. If the brickwork needs a lot of work we usually recommend that you have it repaired by a competent builder or roofer but we do carry out the occasional repair if we’re not too busy sweeping! Burning wood

September 7, 2014 / Posted by in Chimney Products, Chimneys, Wood

Most people believe that they know how to burn wood, it’s simple isn’t it, you just light your fire and chuck the wood on, right? Most of what burns when using logs are VOC’s, (Volatile Hydrocarbon Compounds) these take the form of of tar, creosote and resins. They are an excellent fuel but if the fire is not burned hot enough they cause a problem. These compounds need to be turned into a gas but if they’re not completely burned

Where to buy logs?

Chimney Sweeping Time?

September 28, 2012 / Posted by in Chimney Services, Chimneys

It’s lovely to have so much work and even nicer to talk to old customers we only meet once a year but it’s also frustrating. Both myself and Maxine (my glamorous assistant) are here all year round and can sweep your chimney or flue anytime.
